Careers in Gender and Representation
Thank you to all who joined us for one of our WGSS 50th Anniversary Celebration events: "Careers in Gender and Representation," last Thursday. We heard from WGSS alum speakers Sharon Rogers ('96) and Priya Purandare ('09), who both discussed their career paths and how their positionality impacted their experiences. They also both discussed how their WGSS degrees shaped their careers and way of thinking. Sharon Rogers emphasized the importance of mentoring relationships, as well as not staying in a job that you are unhappy or underpaid in. Priya Purandare discussed how her WGSS degree is still of use to her today, as she leads conversations about gender in her position as Executive Director of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. Students celebrated the 50th anniversary with cake and pizza afterwards with the guests.
The GW Hatchet’s Caitlin Kitson published an article featuring the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program this week! Caitlin delved into the history of the WGSS program at GW as it approaches its 50th Anniversary and what the future of WGSS at GW will look like. Caitlin also took us through the latest event in the 50th anniversary series, “Careers in Gender and Representation," which featured alum speakers Sharon Rogers ('96) and Priya Purandare ('09)!
