Graduate Certificate in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

The Graduate Certificate in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies provides students already enrolled in graduate degree programs other than Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies as well as qualified non-degree students with an opportunity to think and learn about gender in a systematic and integrated manner from a variety of methodological approaches. The Certificate is designed to provide an interdisciplinary course of study on women and gender to enrich a student's disciplinary or professional training.

The Graduate Certificate will be offered to students enrolled in MA and PhD degree programs at GW and to qualified non-degree students who have at least a Bachelor's degree.

Requirements

The Certificate requires a minimum of 12 credit hours (4 courses), including a 6-hour core requirement consisting of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies 6220 (Fundamentals of Feminist Theory) and 6221 (Research Issues in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies). The remaining six credits will be chosen, in consultation with the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies graduate certificate advisor, from graduate level Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and relevant departmental courses that will support the student's area of specialization in graduate study (or their professional development interests for non-degree students). The courses selected should form a coherent program of study related to the student's academic goals, and must be approved by a Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies advisor. The program may be completed in one year or two. Application deadline July 1.
